Volunteers are the backbone of the APCSM; without them, we wouldn’t get much done! With 150 dedicated volunteers and counting, our community is making a real difference for animals in need. We'd love for you to join us and be part of this lifesaving work!
Volunteer Opportunities
Animal Care & Cleaning
Help care for a variety of animals including dogs, cats, guinea pigs, rabbits, hamsters, and more! Volunteering in animal care requires cleaning and sanitizing kennels, changing out dirty blankets and food bowls, general interaction with the animals, and for dogs specifically, taking them on walks.
Dog Walking
Our shelter dogs need plenty of exercise and playtime to help keep them happy and healthy. Dog walks occur in the morning, midday, and afternoon/early evening. Please note, many of our dogs are very large and require some serious core strength to walk!
Transportation
Our animals frequently need to be transported to and from veterinary appointments in the area, as well as being picked up from rescue partners. To become an Animal Transport Volunteer, please apply here.
General Help: Laundry, Dishes, Sorting Donations, etc.
Help keep our shelter clean by assisting with cleaning and folding laundry, washing food bowls and litter boxes, and sorting through a variety of donations that the shelter receives.
Events / Event Committee
The APCSM runs several fundraising events throughout the year and we can always use extra help. Some of the events we host include the book sale, bake sale, vaccine clinics, Dogtoberfest, and open houses. We are seeking event planners, and general event help (day of event). Due to the nature of the work and training that is required, we cannot allow individuals to volunteer who have not completed an interview/training.

Since we only have a limited amount of open shifts, we cannot accommodate all volunteering requests, but we will do our best!

Yes! We have a 3-week trial period that starts on your first day of training.
